Scotia Award

The Scotia Award provides an opportunity for young people working within a support base to participate in an Citizenship Programme, leading to an Achievement Award which will help them reach their maximum potential while increasing their independence & links with their community.

There are three levels of the Award – Bronze, Silver & Gold

The activities undertaken are geared to independent living & citizenship, including community service & constructive use of leisure time.

Within each level there are four sections:

  • Personal Skill
  • Community Service
  • Physical Recreation
  • Residential

Most activities undertaken are an extension of the curriculum, bridging the gaps between school curriculum, continuing education, employment & the community. Community links are required as part of The Scotia Award.

Each level will normally take at least one school year to complete.

A much greater emphasis is put on effort & achievement rather than attainment.

The Scotia Award can be linked with both 5-14 & higher still as well as complimenting other award systems.

At present The Scotia Award is being introduced throughout most areas of Scotland. We have five members of staff, two work experience adults with special needs and two volunteers working from the office in Bearsden. There will also be at least three development officers working from home in other areas of Scotland as soon as funding allows. We have an advisory committee made up of seven volunteers
