Junior Award
The Caledonian Junior Award - The Junior Award is an Achievement and Citizenship Award for all young people from 7 –14 years (normally P4-P7/S1/2) regardless of their ability, based on the 5-14 curriculum.
There are five sections, four of which have to be completed for an Award to be achieve.
- Caring & sharing Care for it, Learn about it.
- Communications Tell me about it.
- Movement Do it, Dance it,Hit it.
- Creative Activities Make it, Play it, Draw it.
- Environment Understand it, look after it.
There are six levels of The Caledonian Junior Award.
Each level will normally take one school session/year to complete.
The Junior Award programme is based on increasing the community links for the participants as well as broadening their experiences thus enriching their lives.
The programme is individually designed, with no two young people having the same goals or targets.
Community links are required in the Caledonian Junior Award.
A much greater emphasis is put on effort & achievement, rather than attainment.
The variety of activities undertaken increases annually as does the number of statutory & voluntary organisations offering to help the participants with one or more sections of their Award.
A certificate is awarded on achievement of four sections at each level.
At present The Caledonian Family of Awards are used throughout most areas of Scotland. We have five members of staff, two work experience adults with special needs and two volunteers working from the office in Bearsden. There will also be at least three development officers working from home in other areas of Scotland, as soon as funding allows. We have an advisory committees made up of seven volunteers.
